Been tidying up the collection and taking some updated photos for this site, and I found this guy…I’d put him aside at the beginning of the year to sell and then completely forgotten to get around to it. So I thought I’d post about it here before I throw him on eBay!
I’m selling this TOMY Rayquaza plush because I basically bought it in a fit of excitement on pkmncollectors after seeing it was for sale (they’re pretty hard to come by), violating my rule against impulse purchases that don’t fully fit with the Magma/Aqua theme of my collection. I assumed I’d find a place for him eventually—he’s one of my favorite Pokémon, after all—but no dice. He just doesn’t go with the rest of my stuff. So it’s time to give him a better home!
I’m asking $50 USD plus shipping. That’s a nice discount off what I paid for him, and seems fair given that he’s only got his tush tag. Message me if you want him! If there’s no takers after a week, he’s off to eBay. (I’ve never applied for permission to sell on pkmncollectors, which is why he’s here and not there; I’m usually so picky about what I collect that me selling something off is a once-in-a-blue-moon thing!)

Collection update: Viz’s translation of Volume 21 of PokeSpe came in the mail! Only one more volume of the Ruby-Sapphire arc to go…and not even two years ago we were still wondering whether it would ever get localized by Viz at all. Hard to believe!

Word on the street is that Chuang Yi is filing for bankruptcy…sad to see them go if they liquidate instead of restructure! Their translation of the RS arc was obviously the first one I read, so I went out of my way to pick up the Chuang Yi volumes off eBay to complement my Viz collection (see full photo - CY volumes are on Magma’s side, and Aqua gets Viz, which is why they’re one short still).

After Volume 22 comes out in May, I don’t know what I’ll have to post about on this blog! While I’m still after Magmaqua settei and one particular rental DVD, my collection is more or less “done” for the moment. Now, if they end up announcing a return to Hoenn in the games…

First collection update in quite a while comes courtesy of blackjackgabbiani, who donated this really cool EX Team Aqua VS Team Magma reversible promotional booklet, along with a Magma/Aqua oversized coin and chibi Archie and Maxie doodles! I had no idea that the booklet even existed, so that’s a double dose of awesome. Thanks a bunch, Blackjack!

slash-attack asked: you picked some lovely shades of red and blue! super kyogrey and groudoney if i do say myself. speaking of the raddest water legendary ever, where did you get that larger kyogre plush? it's so cute!

Thank you! The paints are Behr’s “Luscious” (red) and “Sapphire Lace” (blue), and I took three tries to find the right red. I was picky and it was worth it!

My big TOMY Kyogre plush was bought from a Finnish member of pkmncollectors; I’d say that community or Yahoo!Japan’s auctions are your best bet for finding one yourself. I’m really hesitant to offer up eBay as a resource for plush because 95% of the Pokémon plush for sale there are fake bootlegs, but there’s a slim chance you could find a real one…it might be worth tracking the search term “TOMY Kyogre plush” to see if a legit-looking one pops up. Good luck finding one of your own! :)

cloudsdalelibrarian asked: What bout a Hoenn sequel? Set in the Orange Islands. Those Seem like a good land vs. Sea location for the return of Aqua vs. magma. Plus with the Pokeathlon and Super Training, those mechanics would be interesting gym challenges.

Honestly, there will never be a game set in the Orange Islands; the anime doesn’t bleed nearly that deeply into the games, at least not anymore (hello, Yellow version!). And while I myself don’t think a Hoenn remake is coming, I’d certainly like one…but what I’d like even more than that is a brand-new game for the 3DS set in the Hoenn region. Hoenn’s design would lend itself well to the graphic capabilities of the 3DS, and not having a straight remake would let GameFreak update the region as much as they want and incorporate lots of new elements, instead of being forced to recreate an old game point-for-point.

Anonymous asked: why do you think people think hoenn is the worst region? I think that's complete bullshit. hoenn is awesome, and I don't understand how gen 4 could ever be seen as better than gen 3.

Some people think Hoenn is the worst region, sure, but lots of people don’t, and everyone has their own opinion on what’s the best and worst; if anything, I’ve seen the zeitgeist move in a much more “pro-Hoenn” direction in the 3-4 years I’ve been involved in the Pokémon fandom online. Whining that “everyone hates Hoenn” is an outdated stereotype at this point.

As promised, detail shots of my Team Aqua/Team Magma-themed collection! There are nearly 100 objects in total that I’ve accumulated over about two and a half years; the wall setup took a couple of weekends to put together. I’m so happy with it, though! It puts a huge smile on my face every time I see it, whether that’s when waking up in the morning, or in the evening after a long day at the office.

I see the ‘summoning Hoenn remakes’ post blew up again…it does that once in a while, hah. Well, hello to all the new followers I’ve gotten in the past couple of days! I don’t post much, but I do intend to take some detail photos of my newly-finished collection display wall, so be on the lookout for those soon—possibly this weekend. And if you have any questions about any of the pieces (“where did you get that?”, etc.) feel free to ask! (Though if you ask me how much I paid for something, I’ll probably answer privately rather than on the blog.)

It’s come to my attention that my camera sensor’s in dire need of a cleaning (hence the autofocus problems I’ve been having lately), so I need to make a supply run to the camera store on Saturday morning. I’d rather wait and take good pictures than keep on with the dreck my camera’s been coughing out lately. So, detail shots on Saturday!

IT’S DONE!
Sorry for the terrible photo; I’ll try to take some better ones tomorrow with natural light from the window. And I ended up deciding not to hang the fan art, so I can save space for more settei should I acquire them in the future. But THE WALL. IS. DONE.
I’ll wait to take detail shots tomorrow, since my camera isn’t cooperative at night. But there are around 100 objects here that I’ve accumulated over the past two and a half to three years. To give you a sense of scale, note the manga volumes sitting on the midlevel shelves.
